DEATHS

Friday, Dec. 12, marked the removal by death of another old resident of Guttenberg, Adam Seippel, aged 68 years, 5 months and 8 days.

Deceased was born July 4, 1834, in Bensheim, Hesse, Darmstadt, Germany. He came to America in 1855 and made New York City his home. In January 1857 he was united in marriage to Miss Katharina Wiedemann, and resided in the above named city until the year 1863, when they came west and settled at Glen Haven, Wis., remaining there until 1873 and from there moved to Guttenberg, making this their home since. Mr. Seippel was a tailor by trade and followed that occupation up until a short time previous to his death. He had been a sufferer from asthma several years and that together with old age caused his demise.

To mourn his departure are a wife, two sons and five daughters. One Son, John Nicholas, resides in New York, and the other son, William lives at Garber, Ia. The daughters are: Mesdames John Kreisler, Geo. Kohler, Ernest Geuder, Louis Geuder and Ben Roth. A son and daughter died in New York. One sister and three brothers are also left, Mrs. Louisa Handtke and Philip of Jefferson township, Michael of Julien, Dubuque county, and George who resided in New York. Deceased also leaves thirty grandchildren and one great-grand-child, Arnold, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schute. Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Janzig.

Those who attended the funeral from aboard were: Wm. Seippel of Garber, Peter and Phillip Seippel of Dubuque, Martin Seippel, Glen Haven, Mike Seippel and wife of Julien and Mrs. Chas. Dettman, of Garnavillo.
