William Griffen was born January 10, 1884 at Froelich, Iowa. His mother died when he was only six months old thus depriving him of a loving mother's care. He found a good home, however, with his aunt, Fredericka Ziesow, i.e. the home of Albert and Theodore Ziesow. Here his every need from infancy to manhood was supplied. This was his home until the time of his death.

In 1913 his father died, leaving him without either parent. He died in the hospital at Prairie du Chien, Wis. last Saturday February 24, 1923, having attained the age of 39 years 1 month and 14 days.

He leaves to mourn his departure Theodore and Albert Ziesow at whose home he grew to manhood, one brother Charles Griffen of Garner, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Runge, of Britt; Mary Griffen of Minneapolis and one half sister, Vina Griffen of Garner, besides other relatives and friends.

Notea: Burial is in Council Hill cemetery. His gravestone has DOB as 1/9/1884 rather than the 10th as in the obit. His aunt Fredericka Zieso died in 1916 & is also buried in Council Hill.
