Mrs. Anna Maria Elizabeth Meyer, nee Moellering, was born May 23rd, 1845, in Westphalen, Germany, as the eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Moellering. She came to America with her parents in 1846. One year they remained in St. Louis, coming to this county in 1847, to a farm in Jefferson township, two years later moving to the farm north of town which is still known as the Moellering homestead. In 1859 she was confirmed by Rev. Stockfield.

In 1861 she was united in marriage to Mr. Louis Meyer. This union was blessed with seven children, two preceding the mother in death, Maria died at the age of 4 years and Margaret married to Charles Kaiser, died at the age of 25, in 1901. Louis lives in Clayton twp., Mrs. Wilhelmina Kregel in Garnavillo twp., Henry in Horloton, Mont., John in Farmersburg twp., Mrs. Elisa Meyer in Garnavillo twp.

Two years ago in October Mrs. Meyer was very ill and since then had not been very strong, gradually growing weaker. On Sunday, July 31st., she became seriously ill and passed away on Wednesday morning, Aug. 3rd, at the age of 76 years, 2 months, 11 days. Besides her aged husband and five children, she leaves 22 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, William Moellering of Garnavillo twp., and Henry of San Jose, Cal.; 2 sisters, Mrs. Maria Bruns of Monona and Mrs. John Mohning of Horloton, Mont., also a large circle of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at St. Paul's church Sunday afternoon, Rev. Braun officiating. Interment in the new cemetery.
