Died on Saturday evening, December 13th, 1890, at the home of Carl Meyer, in this township, Bertha Meyer, aged 19 years.
Scarcely ever has it been our lot to chronicle a more sad event. The hope of fond parents, the idol of loving brothers and sister, the delight of all who knew her, has been crushed by the ruthless hand of death. A bright flower just budding forth in the springtime of life casting the fragrance of humility and kindness on all who came within her acquaintance, she is plucked by the fell destroyer, just as she was blooming in her brightest array of Christian virtue.
If we were able to alleviate the pain and sorrow of the stricken family, gladly would we pour into their wounds the balm of comfort. But our endeavors are inadequate to the depth of their sorrow.
Bertha was a young lady of amiable dispositions, kind and loving, who delighted in caring for the happiness of others. She will long be missed from among that circle of young people among whom she moved. Her remains were buried on Monday followed by one of the largest funerals ever seen in Garnavillo.
