William Henry Ludwig Staack of Clayton Center died Tuesday, Aug. 6th, of peritonitis, in Dubuque, after an illness of about six days.

The deceased was born Feb. 17, 1884, in Hamburg, Germany, and so, at the time of his death, had reached the age of 51 years, five months and 19 days.

He came to America in 1900 and settled first at Clayton Center. For a time he also resided at Farmersburg, but in 1921 purchased the store in Clayton Center, which he was conducting at the time of his death.

On Dec 4, 1912, at Clayton Center he was united in marriage with Miss Hattie Rieckhof, who, together with three daughters, survive to mourn the death of a kind husband and father. The daughters are: Marie (Mrs. Eldo Wilke), Elkader; Nora and Wilma,, at home. Besides the wife and children, he is survived by his father and mother, William and Augusta (Riemann) Staack; three brothers and two sisters, namely: Carl F., Elkader; Ernest and Richard, both of Hamburg, Germany; Mrs. Augusta Forke and Mrs. Erna Petrovsky, also both of Hamburg, Germany. One brother, Paul, died in 1895.

Mr. Staack received his education in Germany and for a large part of his life conducted a general merchandise business. He was a member of the Zion's Ev. Lutheran church in Clayton Center, president of its choir, and treasurer of the independent school district of Center.

Funeral services were held last Friday afternoon in the Zion's church, and interment was made in the cemetery there with Rev. O. F. Melchert officiating.

Pallbearers were Chas. Gossman, Henry Dahl, Frank Hagensick, Wm. L. Staack, Arthur Staack and Valmah Gossman.

Relatives from a distance who came to attend the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Herman Stendel of Northwood, Iowa, and Mrs. Hervey Dahlstrom of Riley, Wis.
