Guttenberg: Funeral services for Christian Beckner, pioneer resident of this community, were conducted by the Rev. W. J. F. Adix at St. John's American Lutheran church in Guttenberg Saturday afternoon, with interment in the city cemetery. Mr. Becker passed away at his home here on Wednesday morning at 7:00 o'clock, at the age of 78 years, ten months and two days, following a several years' illness. Mr. Becker was born in Basin, Germany, Sept. 29, 1856. He came to America with his parents when he has three years old, the family first settling on a farm in Millville township. He was married at Guttenberg to Miss Louise Weideman March 15, 1882. She preceded him in death Nov. 5, 1910. After their marriage, they settled on a farm near Guttenberg and 29 years ago they came to Guttenberg to live. On Dec. 8, 1915, Mr. Becker was married to Mrs. Wilhelmina Flentje of Guttenberg. Besides his widow, he is survived by six children: William Becker and Mrs. Augusta Overbeck, both of Millville township, Mrs. Louise Bittner of Guttenberg, John Becker of Clayton township, Miss Elsie Becker and Albert Becker, both of Guttenberg: nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister, Mrs. Caroline Harnisch of Menno, S.D.; one brother, Fred Becker of Burdock, S.D.; four step-children, Henry Flentje of Fairmont, Minn., Elmer Flentje of Saginaw, Mich., Mrs. Michael Yambura and Mrs. Fred Bluecher, both of Dubuque.

Christian Becker is Called by Death Wednesday A.M.

The community was saddened Wednesday by news that Christian Becker had died at 7 in the morning following a lingering illness.

He had been a resident of Clayton county for more than 70 years, and was respected by all who knew him.

Mr. Becker was born Sept. 29, 1865 in Basile, Germany. At his death he was 78 years, 10 months and three days old. He came to the United States when he was 3 years old, and settled with his parents on a farm in Millville township.

He was confirmed by the Rev. Johans Turner in 1877. On March 15, 1882, he married Louise Weideman, who died Nov. 5, 1910. They had eight children, two of whom died in infancy.

Mr. Becker later married Wilhelmina Flentje, who lives to mourns him.

Funeral services will be held Saturday in St. John’s Lutheran church. The Rev. W.J.F. Adix will officiate. Burial will be in the City cemetery.

Mr. Becker is survived by his widow; six children, William Becker, Mrs. William Overbeck, Mrs. Louise Bittner, John Becker, Miss Elsie Becker and Albert Becker; a brother, Fred Becker of Burdock, S.D.; a sister, Mrs. Caroline Harnisch of Menno, S.D.; four step-children, Henry Flentje of Fairmont, Minn., Mrs. F.C. Bluecher and Mrs. Mike Yambura of Saginaw, Mich.,; and nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mr. Becker operated a farm in Millville township until his retirement in 1907, when he moved to Guttenberg, where he made his home until his death.
