John F. C. Mecklenberg, who died last week Wednesday, January 23, was born in Germany on January 7, 1843, and so, at the time of his death, had reached the age of 92 years and 16 days.
The deceased came to Elkader in 1897, where he followed the trade of bricklayer and plasterer for a period of about fifteen years. Later he moved with his family to a farm near St. Olaf, which has been his home for the past 24 years.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Leon Mecklenberg; four sons, John, Joe, Norman, and Jim; one daughter, Lenora, and five grandchildren.
Services were held last Friday from the Home Service chapel and interment was made in the East Side cemetery, with the Rev. G. Gunsten officiating.
