Clayton County Register, Thur., 17 Jan. 1935.
Mrs. Josephine Larson died Jan. 8, 1935, at a few minutes past midnight, at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 12 days.
Josephine Peterson was born in Norway, April 26, 1854, and came to this country with her parents the following year. They located first at Milwaukee but remained there only a short time, later removing to Prairie du Chien, Wis., where the family resided for two years before coming to Iowa to locate on a small farm. In addition to farming her father also worked as a carpenter and builder during this time.
In the year 1873 she was united in marriage with Andrew M. Larson, who preceded her in death on July 30, 1924.
She is survived by six sons, namely: Peter M. Larson, Elkader; Martin C. Larson, Monona; George, Henry E., John A., and William L., all of Elkader. Her only living brother, A. L. Peterson of St. Olaf, now past 86 years of age, is the only surviving member of her family, since her only sister, Mrs. Laura Olson, died nine days previously. Seventeen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.
Two sons and two daughters preceded her in death; Christian, in 1879 at the age of 13 months; Albert, in 1889, at the age of seven years; Julia, in 1898, at the age of 24 years, and Mabel Amelie, in 1904, at the age of 12 years.
Her body was laid to rest in the Norway cemetery beside that of her husband and her deceased children.
Mrs. Larson was a good wife and a kind and loving mother, whose greatest concern was her home and family.
