Mary Lou (Nieland) Gulbro, 72, of Guttenberg passed away on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services were held at St. Mary Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7. Rev. Paul Peters was celebrant of the service.

Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Guttenberg.

Visitation was at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Guttenberg from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to services at church.

Mary Lou (Nieland) Gulbro was the daughter of Gregor and Lillian (Wolter) Nieland and was born, May 14, 1932, in Dubuque. She received her education from St. Mary's School and was a homemaker and worked in retail sales in Guttenberg for many years.

She took pride in raising her five children, and when the grandchildren arrived they were her pride and joy. Mary Lou has one great-granddaughter, Alivia Klein, who was the lime light of Mary Lou's retirement years. Alivia referred to Mary Lou as "Boo Boo."

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Vernon; two daughters, Debbie Klein and (Duane) of Longmont, Colo.; and Cynthia Klein and (Mike) of Dubuque; three sons, James (Becky) Klein of Guttenberg, Douglas (Linda) Klein of Orlando, Fla., and Duane (Patty) Gulbro of Lewiston, Minn.; five grandchildren, Hillary Klein, Allysa (Larry) Wilson, Kim Bochenstedt, Kari Bochenstedt, and Vanessa Baros; one great-granddaughter, Alivia Klein; one brother, Douglas (Anita) Nieland of Richmond, Ky., and Many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gregor and Lillian.

Mary Lou received tremendous support from the Guttenberg Eagles Fraternity Club, 4114, during her illness. She held the position of being the first president of the women's Auxiliary.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to St. Mary's Elementary School for teaching supplies.
