Elkader Register, Thur., 20 Nov. 1924. Strawberry Point column.
Last Wednesday evening occurred the death of Paul, the five year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Waring. The week before the little one with other children was playing and had the misfortune to have a sliver run in his hip. Medical aid was summoned and it was removed and Tuesday he was playing with his playthings and during the night he became restless and it was discovered that lock jaw had set in and he gradually grew worse until death relieved him. In spite of all that medical aid and loving hands could do his little life was snuffed out. Paul was a bright and lovable little boy and his departure from this world was a terrible shock to his parents, who are crushed with grief as this was their only child. The sympathy of the entire community is with the parents and grandmothers, Mrs. Minnie Homewood and Mrs. L. Waring. Funeral services were held in the M.E. church Friday afternoon conducted by the Pastor Rev. Turner. Interment took place in the local cemetery.
"Dear sweet boy, the darkness gathers,
As we sit to think of you,
Back to when life's days were sunny,
Back to when life's skies were blue,
When your little childish laughter,
Sounded thru the silent hall,
Now we listen in vain for footsteps,
Footsteps that will never fall,
Oh we know, sweet darling Paul,
Tho you lie beneath the sod,
That your soul is safe in Heaven,
(last part blurred)."
