A Good Woman Called By Death.

On Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M. Burr, west of town, occurred the death of Mrs. Mary Nieland at the age of 87 years, 4 months and 1 day. Deceased was born in Hannover, Germany, on August 25, 1827, later coming to America, settling at first at Cincinatti, Ohio, and then coming to Guttenberg, Iowa. She was married at Cincinnati, O., to John Nieland. The couple made their home on a farm in Jefferson township.

Her husband preceded her in death about 26 years ago. Deceased had been ailing for some time but about two weeks ago she had the misfortune to fall and break her limb, and on last Saturday morning the Angel of Death called her to that world where all pains are forgotten. All that loving hands could do and medical knowledge could suggest was done for her to ward off death, but all to no avail. She was a kind and true mother and friend, always ready with heart and hand to help those in need, and she was also a faithful member of the Catholic Church.

Her death is deeply mourned by three sons, Gerhard, Ben and Henry, of Jefferson township, three daughters, Mrs. Ed Harter, Mrs. M. Burr, of Guttenberg, and Mrs. Anton Menke, of Luxemburg; a number of grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends by whom she will be sadly missed. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic church in this city on Tuesday morning, Rev. J. H. Brinkman officiating. Interment was made in St. Mary's Cemetery.
