Monona, Ia., Jan. 22 - Mrs. Winkley, one of the earliest and best known pioneer citizens of Monona, died suddenly Sunday morning from the infirmities of old age, she being about 84 years old. She came with her husband to Monona many years ago and took an active interest to building up the town and society and accumulated much property.
Mrs. Winkley was an amiable lady and very charitable to the poor and needy. She will be greatly missed in this community and in the church. The funeral will be held at the Congregational church.

County deaths - Mrs. E. Winkley. At Monona, on Jan. 20th, occurred the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Winkley. Born at Plainfield, New Hampshire, July 7, 1823. Came to Monona in 1860. Mr. Winkley died in 1882 as did also their only child, Mrs. P.W. McClelland. Mrs. Winkley was the largest individual tax payer in Monona township.
