Elkader Register, Thur., 10 May 1906. Strawberry Point column.

This Thursday afternoon, at his late residence, occurs the funeral of W. O. Appleby, who passed away here at 2:22 a.m. Tuesday afternoon, after an illness of several weeks. The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. O. C. DuPuy, of Edgewood, assisted by Rev. C. W. Rodgers, of this city. Interment will take place in the local cemetery.

Mr. Appleby was a member of the Knights of Pythias and the Woodmen of America and these orders will attend the funeral in a body.

Warren Otto Appleby, son of Edwin and Rhoda (Wells) Appleby, was born at Pocatonica, Illinois, August 18, 1858. His parents moved from Illinois to Waverly, Iowa, in 1862, where he resided till 1879, when he located at Greeley, Iowa.

On October 11, 1882, he was married to Miss Eva A. Wilson, of Greeley. Soon after his marriage he moved to Strawberry Point, where he resided till 1885, when he removed to Kansas, where he lived for two years. He then returned to Strawberry Point. Afterwards he engaged for several years in the mercantile business at Greeley. In 1899 he again returned to Strawberry Point.

In 1899 he accidently received, while hunting, a severe gun shot wound in his side and from effect of which he never fully recovered, and which injury was doubtless the primal cause of his death.

Mr. Appleby was of a genial, contented disposition, considerate of the feelings and rights of others. He was generous to all, loyal to all his friends and had the courage of his convictions. A devoted husband, a kind indulgent father, a true hearted man and a worthy citizen has gone from among us.

Mr. Appleby leaves surviving him, his wife, his son James and his two daughters, Lucy and Pauline, residing here, and his brother, Bert Appleby, residing at Janesville, Wisconsin.

The sympathy of the whole community goes out to this afflicted family in their bereavement.
