Elkader Register, Thur., 12 Apr. 1906

Mrs. Albert Gerdes died a 2:00 o'clock Wednesday morning. The funeral will be held on Saturday at 11:00 o'clock at the house, and 1:00 o'clock at Elkader.

At her home in this township at 2:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 11th, occurred the death of Mrs. Albert Gerdes at the age of 62 years.

Maria (looks like Diersks or Dierske) was born in Horsten, Ostfriesland, Germany, July 21st, 1844. In 1862 she was united in marriage with Albert Gerdes, and in 1882 they came to America, settling in this township. Ten children were born to them, three sons and seven daughters, one daughter, Mariea, dying three years ago. Gerd Gerdes lives at Calumet, Iowa; Mrs. Meta Patsche at Fairmount, Minn.; Mrs. Anna Baseman at Elgin, Ill.; Mrs. Johanna Athen at Manly, Iowa; Mrs. Alma Schuldt at Mederville; Michael Gerdes at Doon, Iowa; Jacob, Gesina and Lina are yet at home.

Mr. Albert Gerdes died two years ago. The funeral took place from the house at 11:00 a.m. Saturday conducted by Rev. F. Leonhardt, of Elkader. Interment in the East Side cemetery at Elkader.
