Thurs., 12 June 1890 issue, “Elkader Register,” Littleport section, page 4, column 2:

Death has visited our community again and Frederick C. J. Passehl [Possehl] was called home on Sunday evening, the 8th inst., at the advanced age of 77 years. He was a native of Bruetz, Mecklenburg, Germany. He was married to Caroline W. Wolf in 1840 and they had two children both of which are dead, none only the aged wife survives him. He came to America in 1854 [or 1851] where he has resided ever since, and was one of the old settlers of Clayton county. He had been sick over twenty years. His remains were interred in the Littleport cemetery June 10th, Rev. Fuchs conducting the services. A large concourse of friends followed his remains to the last resting place.
