Elkader Register, Fri., 23 Nov. 1883.

Near Strawberry Point, on last Sabbath, occurred an accident, which has resulted in the death of one member of the party and another is reportedly fatally injured.

The accident occurred at a crossing of the railroad, near Strawberry Point known as Gilchrist's crossing, and the victims were Michael Wagge and daughter, who reside near St. Sebald. They were going to Strawberry Point when a passing train scared the horses and they ran away, overturning the wagon. Mr. Wagge struck on his head and received injuries from which he died in a very short time, and his daughter is so badly injured that she cannot recover.

Added by S. Ferrall 2/10/2017:

This is possibly G.M. Weger, buried in St. Sebald cemetery. WPA records give his DOD 11/15/1883. According to the obit, he died on the previous Sunday, which would have been 11/18/1883. Interested researchers should verify both his surname and DOD. WPA records also note Weege burials in St. Sebald, none for 1883.
