Leui, Augustus died 1883

Elkader Register, Fri., 9 Nov. 1883.

Last Sunday an accident occurred in Grand Meadow township, which resulted fatally for a son of Mr. Jacob Louy*.

It seems that the boy and a hired man were out hunting, and when walking through the timber the gun in the hired man's hand was discharged, the load taking effect in young Louy's leg. He was at once conveyed home, and doctors called who amputated the leg, but for some reason a second amputation was necessary, and his system being unable to bear the shock, he died on Tuesday.

He was a young man about 20 years of age, and his death is a severe blow to his parents. The funeral occurred on Wednesday, and was quite largely attended.

*Surname is spelled Leui. Per Grand Meadow cemetery records & his gravestone inscription - Augustus Leui, age 18y 1m 2d, died 11/6/1883.
