Elkader Register, Fri., 10 August 1883.

At his home in Giard township, on the 5th inst., occurred the death of Henry Schneider, one of the earliest settlers of the county.

Mr. Schneider was born in HesseCastle, Germany, January 15th, 1810, consequently he was in his 74th year at the time of his death. In 1847 he left Germany, and emigrated to the United States, settling in Giard township, where he has since resided. He was married twice, his second wife, 11 children and 38 grandchildren surviving him.

Mr. S., was a retired farmer at the time of his death, having secured a competency by hard, unremitting labor, and honest dealings with his fellow men. For thirty years he tilled the soil of Clayton county, and made a host of friends by his honorable and upright manners. May he rest in peace.
