Rites Held For Ray Jacobia
Ray Jacobia, the son of David and Lovina (Baker) Jacobia, was born in Marion township on October 30, 1874. He attended the rural school in his neighborhood and grew to manhood in that vicinity. On January 27, 1914 he was united in marriage with Florence Munger at Elkader. They became the parents of four children.
Mr. Jacobia lived his entire life in this community where he farmed until he retired and moved with his wife to Gunder when their son began operating the "home place". Although active his entire life, he entered the Postville Hospital Saturday, March 1, with what was diagnosed as pneumonia and seemed to be recovering nicely when on Tuesday morning he suffered a stroke and succumbed to it at the age of 83 years, four months, and four days.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Carrie, who was Mrs. William Ruff, and Myra, who was Mrs. E. Gray; and three brothers, Homer, Charles, and Frank.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florence Jacobia, and their four children, Milo, who lives on the home farm north of Gunder, Carol June, who is Mrs. E. H. Rankin of Lakewood, California, Dorothe, who is Mrs. N. Raisch of Chapin, Iowa, and Lorayne, who is Mrs. W. F. Kesterson of Chula Vista, California. In addition there are 11 grandchildren, four nieces and three nephews left to mourn his passing.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Schutte Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald T. Caspers, pastor of the Elgin Methodist Church, in charge. Burial in the family lot at the Eno cemetery.
