Elkader Register, Fri., 9 Mar. 1883.

We are again called upon to announce the death of one of the early settlers of the county, Mrs. Maria Barbara Kopp, wife of Cornelius Kopp, of Cox Creek township, having died at her residence, on the 1st inst., at the age of 56 years.

Deceased was born at Tuttlinger, Wuertemberg, Germany, March 18th, 1827, and came to this country in 1857, locating at Dubuque. At this place she was married to Mr. Kopp, and shortly afterwards they came to this county, settling in Cox Creek township. By her death she leaves an aged husband and two grown children to mourn the loss of a faithful and loving wife, and kind mother. Of her children, Clara is married to George Muegge, of St. Louis, and George resides out west.

Mrs. Kopp had a large circle of acquaintances and friends who mourn her loss as one of their own family.

The funeral occurred on Sunday, and was largely attended.

Note: Maiden name Weckherlin, is from her husband's obituary. Burial was in Elkader East Side cemetery
