Elkader Register, Fri., 9 Mar. 1883.
It is with regret that we announce the death of another of our former citizens, Mrs. Lydia Hawn, having died at her home in Brush Creek, on the 3rd inst., after a brief illness.
Deceased was born in Pennsylvania, Dec. 24th, 1809, consequently was a little over 73 years of age. In 1828, she was married to Mr. John Hawn, in Wayne county, P., and by him had eight children, three sons and five daughters, of whom two sons and four daughters survive her. Her husband died a number of years ago, and he with one son and a daughter, Mrs. T. G. Price, of this place, are buried in the cemetery at Brush Creek, where, on the 4th inst., all that is mortal of this noble woman, faithful wife and loving mother, was laid away in the mother earth, beside three loved ones who had gone before.
Mrs. Hawn, was well known in Elkader, having at one time been the landlady of the Boardman House, and in after years renewed her old acquaintances by visiting her daughter, Mrs. Price. She had many warm friends here and at Brush Creek, who greatly regret her death. May she rest in peace.
