Elkader Register, Thur., 15 Oct. 1903. Strawberry Point column.

The death of Mrs. Wheeler, nee Emeline Dunning, occurred at her home on Commercial Street Saturday afternoon, after a long, lingering but patient illness. She was married to Hiram B. Wheeler January (looks like 19), 1856. To this union three children, Geo. F. and Ray D., residing at this place, and Mrs. Mary Wheeler Fields, of Oelwein. Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler came to Clayton Co., Ia., in 1859 and located on 80 acres in Sec. 26, Cass twp. In 1874 they rented their farm and moved to town. Mr. Wheeler preceded her to the great beyond, Jan. 24, 1896. Mrs. Wheeler was a firm believer in a future existence, believing God to do justice with all his children. She was a good neighbor and friend to all. Nothing but praise is spoken of her. The funeral took place at the family residence Monday afternoon, Rev. O. C. DePuy, assisted by Rev. J. F. Hestwood, officiating. The remains were laid to rest beside her husband in our local cemetery. Beside her children and other relatives she leaves many friends to mourn her death. A good woman has gone to her reward.
