Elkader Register, Thur., 10 Sept. 1903.
Friday morning, Sept. 4th, Mrs. Norman Wells passed away in death after a brief illness. She had been sick with lung fever when she was attacked with dysentery, which has taken her away in her 74th year.
Catherine Horne was born in Berwick on Tweed, England, April 29th, 1830. She came to America in April, 1861, and settled in McGregor, where on Feb. 26th, (looks like 1866), she was united in marriage with Norman Wells. From there they came to a farm in Boardman twp. About nineteen years ago they came to Elkader where they have since resided. Her aged husband, one son, Alonzo H., of this township, four grandchildren and one nephew, H. B. Horne, of McGregor, survive her.
Deceased was an affectionate wife and mother, honored and respected by her neighbors among whom she has lived for many years. Our sympathy goes out to the aged husband who has lost the companion of his life and the one upon whom he has leaned for a long time.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the congregational church, Rev. G. W. Baxter, the pastor, officiating.
