Elkader Register, 21 May 1903. From the Elgin Echo, undated.

Mrs. Gilbert Halverson, of Marion township, Clayton county, departed this life May (Looks like 6 or 8), 1903, at the advanced age of eighty years. Prior to removing to Clayton county she had been a resident of Fayette county for forty-four years. The lady had been bedfast for some two weeks before the end came. The immediate cause of her death was lung trouble combined with old age. She was the mother of nine children five of whom have preceded her to the great beyond.- Elgin Echo.

Note: gravestone in Marion Lutheran cemetery spells surname as Halvorson rather than as spelled in the obituary. Dates from stone are:
9/10/1822 - 5/9/1903
