Elkader Register, Thur., 16 Apr. 1903. Strawberry Point column.

The death of John Staple occurred at Chicago Saturday evening. He went there for an operation and it was successfully performed but later he grew worse until death relieved him of his suffering. His remains were brought here Monday morning to be laid to rest. He leaves a wife and nine children to mourn his death. All were present at his funeral except two children, a daughter in Nebraska and a son in Illinois. Deceased was a good neighbor and citizen and his death is mourned not only by his family and relatives but by hosts of friends. Funeral occurred Tuesday conducted by Rev. Graf.
