On Wednesday night, April 1st, occurred the death of Ernest Johann Peter Rantzow at the age of 57 years, 7 months and 6 days. He was born August 25th, 1845, in Rehna, Mecklenburg-Schwerin. In 1871 he immigrated to this country and settled in Clayton, where he worked at his trade as cobbler. He was united in marriage at Clayton to Miss Maria Johanna Buchwald in 1871, to which union were born three children. Up to about a year and a half ago he lived at Clayton, where he had a general store, when all was destroyed in the great fire which almost consumed that town, he then took up his abode with his son Charles in Farmersburg township where he remained until death claimed him. He is mourned by a wife, two sons and a daughter, Charles residing in Farmersburg township, Ernest, telegraph operator at Guttenberg and Mrs. Del. Raymond in Farmersburg township.

Funeral services were held Saturday, conducted by Rev. W. K. Braun, interment taking place in the new cemetery.
