WITT, WITTE, TAACKE, UECKER, HOCHHAUS, FRIEND, RHINEHARDT, CONRAD

At the residence of Wm. Witt, in this township, on July 25th, 2890, occurred the death of John F. C. Witt; aged 68 years, 2 months and 24 days.

Deceased was a native of Germany in which country he was born, May 1st, 1822. He came to Iowa in 1869, locating in Garnavillo township. During that year his wife died.

In 1879 he was married to Mrs. Taacke, of Read township, who died in 1889. Soon after her death he took up his residence with his son William, at whose home his death occurred. For a long time past he has been been a sufferer from cancer of the stomach which caused his death.

There are left to mourn the loss of a kind parent, William Witt, of Elkader; Mrs. August Uecker, and Mrs. Frank Hochhaus, of Elkader; Mrs. Friend, of Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Rhinehardt, of Remsen, Iowa; and Mrs. Conrad, of Chicago, Illinois.

Deceased was an industrious, hardworking man, who enjoyed the friendship of all who knew him, and his funeral on Sunday afternoon last was largely attended. Services being conducted by Rev. F. W. Seifert, and the Elkader Gesang-verein. His remains were laid to rest in the east side cemetery.
