Elkader Argus, Thur., 7 Jan. 1903.
It is with sorrow we chronicle the death of Mrs. Luella F. Bayless, wife of F. H. Bayless, of this city. She was 25 years, 10 months and 11 days of age; was married to F. H. Bayless, Oct. 25th, 1900.
Together they engaged in the grocery business, starting the only exclusive grocery store in Elkader. After building up a substantial business, they sold out their interest in the store and purchased a neat, comfortable home. Mrs. Bayless was industrious and very ambitious - a good friend and neighbor, and her untimely taking away has enlisted the sympathy of the whole community.
She was an earnest Endeavorer of the Congregational church and will be greatly missed in all their meetings. She was tutored in a Christian home, her father a minister of the Gospel. She was well grounded in the doctrines of faith. Her sickness was of short duration. Death claimed her Dec. 31st, and her body was taken to her old home near Osterdock and laid beside kindred dust, her father and mother both, having preceded her to the grave.
Her husband, four sisters and two brothers remain to mourn her demise, Emma and Etta and brother Thomas, of Letcher, S.D., and Mrs. Maggie Tinkey, of Osterdock, were present at the burial. Anna, of Minnesota, and Will, of South Dakota, could not be present. The funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 4th, at 2 p.m., Rev. Baxter, of Elkader, officiating.
