Peter Stevens died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Alvia Burgen, near Edgewood, Iowa, Thursday, April 3d, 1890.

He was an old resident of Clayton county, coming here with his family from Michigan in the year 1857, locating in Highland. A few years later he moved to Volga, lived on a farm two miles east, until about five years ago, when he moved to Elk township.

His wife died in November 1886, and a greater part of the time since then he has resided with his daughter, Mrs. Burgen.

Mr. Stevens and wife were members of the M.E. church in Volga, good Christian people, loved and respected by all. He was a strong advocate of temperance and was an energetic worker in the old Good Templar’s lodge of this place. He was in poor health for a year or more, but was confined to the house about two months before his death.

Three children are left to mourn the death of a kind and loving father. Mrs. Ellen Burgen, of Edgewood, Mrs. Jennie Sabin, of Omaha, and Frank Stevens.

His old acquaintances of Volga will miss his friendly visits. The remains were brought her for burial. The funeral discourse was preached by Rev. J.J. Littler in the M.E. church, Saturday, April 5th.
