Elkader Register, Thur., 3 Apr. 1890.
Wednesday morning, Thos. Connell, one of the oldest residents of Read twp., died very suddenly of heart disease. He ate breakfast with the family and appeared to be in his usual health. He soon went out to a straw stack and commenced pitching straw from it upon a cattle shed. He was accompanied by a little grandson, who was playing about in the straw. Mr. Connell finally went upon the shed to level the straw and after taking a few steps fell forward upon his face. The little grandson noticed him lying there, and thinking he was asleep attempted to awaken him, but not succeeding went in and told his mother. Dr. Cain was immediately summoned, but his services were of no avail as death had probably been almost instantaneous.
Deceased leaves an aged wife and several children to mourn his death.
