Elkader Register, Thur., 16 Jan. 1890. Garnavillo column.
Died- At his home in Farmersburg township on Thursday, January 9th, Mathias Mott, after a long and painful illness. Mr. Mott was a native of Germany, having been born in the province of Lichtenstein, July 11th, 1823. He emigrated to this country in 1852, and settled in Jefferson township, where he was married in 1854. He lived in Jefferson township 9 years, and then purchased a farm in Farmersburg township where he lived until the time of his death. His wife preceded him in death some ten years ago. Mr. Mott was a man of sterling integrity and fine business qualifications. He amassed a large amount of property which he left for his children to enjoy. He took the greatest pride in the prosperity of his children for whom he constantly labored. It was his will to see his youngest daughter united in wedlock before his death, hence her marriage took place only a few hours before he closed his eyes forever to this world. His funeral took place on Saturday. The remains were followed by a large concourse of sorrowing friends. Rev. Kurtz performed the last sad rites and preached the funeral sermon in the Catholic church. He was buried at the new cemetery, by the side of his wife. May he rest in peace.
