Mass of Christian Burial for Gertrude Auer Rose, 87, Monona, Iowa, were held at Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Monona. The Rev. Richard Gaul officiated. Burial was in St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Monona.
Music was by organist Linda Bacon and soloist Joshua Grau. Casket bearers were Raymond Rose, Jeff Hildebrand, Jason Grady, Joe Rose, Nathan Nielsen, Andy Murphy and Dan Rose. Leonard Funeral Home, Monona, was in charge of arrangements.
She was born February 18, 1917, in Garnavillo, Iowa, daughter of Edward and Josephine (Heck) Auer. She attended Bowden Country School, St. Patrick's Elementary through eighth grade, and received her G.E.D. in Calmar in 1971.
On Sept. 4, 1939, she was united in marriage to Joseph C. Rose. Ten children were born to this union.
Gertrude loved to garden, quilt, bake, spend time with family, play cards and sing. She was a 4-H leader in Allamakee County, a member of St. Patrick's Church, Rosary Society, ACCW, church choir, C.C.D. teacher and she worked with Meals on Wheels.
Gertrude Auer Rose died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon, Iowa, following a brief illness.
Survivors include seven children, Laura (Leon) Hildebrand, Earlville, Ruth (Marvin) Widlund, Ellendale, Minn., Bill Rose, Earlville, Ill., Tom Rose, Monona, Sue Wettschreck, Staples, Minn., Tim (sue) Rose, Monona, and Trudy (Jerry) Nielsen, Mankato, Minn.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Kitty Ohlert, Stevens Point, Minn., Eileen Johanninmeier, McGregor, and Angie Hogan, Postville; two brothers, Ralph Auer, Lansing, and Edward Auer, Winthrop.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Joe, on June 27, 1986; three children, Donna Murphy, Jim Rose and Ned Rose: two brothers, George Auer, Loras Auer; and four sisters, Laura Auer, Dorothy Auer, Leona Voss and Mary Kathryn Stien.
