Mrs. George Balekos, Sr., 74, passed away at Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, Wis., on Sunday morning, Dec. 5, following a long illness.
Services were held in the United Methodist Church in Monona on Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 7. Rev. Raymond Pacholke officiated. Mrs. Ivan J. Schultz was organist. Mrs. Tom James and Mrs. Helen Martin provided the music. Interment was in Monona City Cemetery.
She was born January 25, 1897, to Wm. Oliver and Minnie Randall Oliver in Monona. She married Wm. Pettinger who preceded her in death November 23, 1917. A daughter, Verla, was born to them. On December 25, 1929, she married George Bolekos. They had a son, George W. She was preceded by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her husband, George, daughter Verla (Mrs. Elvie Drahn of Luana) and her son, George W., Monona; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Winnie Smith, Monona; a brother, Chester Oliver, Dubuque.
Pallbearers were: Harold Rose, James Peters, Lynwood Dahms, Elmer Lenth, Tom Grady and Eugene Ewing.

-Both Balekos and Bolekos were used in the body of this obit. Balekos is the correct spelling.-1920 census, Scella E. Pettinger is age 23, widowed and living with her parents in Monona. Her daughter Verla is age 4 and in the same household.
-1930 census, Sulla Balekos, age 33, has remarried to George Balekos. Verla is 15. The family is living in Monona.
