Elkader Register, Fri., 24 Nov. 1882.
As announced in our last issue, Charles Skinner died at the residence of W. A. Skinner, on Friday morning last of typhoid fever, after a long and lingering sickness. The deceased was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harmon Skinner. His parents dying when he was quite young, he was cared for by his uncle, at whose residence he died. He was a little over twelve years of age. The funeral occurred on Saturday, and his remains laid to their final rest in the east side cemetery. The coffin was neatly decorated with wreaths by his schoolmates, one fine wreath bearing the inscription: "In memory of our beloved schoolmate." The services at the cemetery were conducted by his classmates, and consisted of a very appropriate song, after which they each deposited flowers in his grave.
