Walter J. Morris

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2003, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Volga, IA for Walter Joseph Morris, 86, of Volga, who died on Tuesday, December 2, 2003, at the Central Community Hospital in Elkader, following a brief illness. Rev. Paul R. Peters was the Celebrant. Burial was in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Strawberry Point. Friends called from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 5 at the Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader, and after 8:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church. A Parish Rosary was recited at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at the Funeral Home.

Walter Joseph Morris was the oldest son born to Thomas and Martha (McTaggart) Morris on November 24, 1917, in Strawberry Point, IA. Walter graduated from the Strawberry Point High School, served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and graduated from the Iowa State University College of Dairy Management.

In 1949 he married Kathryn Garrity Dillon in Strawberry Point. They moved to Iowa City, then to the Quad Cities where he worked in the dairy business until his retirement. After retirement, Walter and Kathryn moved to Volga.

Walter loved one surviving include his three children: Jack (Patti) Dillon, Strawberry Point; Mary Ann Morris, Volga; and Katie (Don) Ewoldt, Chesteron, IN; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Mike (Angie) Dillon and children, Wyatt, Madison, and Reid Dillon of Carroll, IA; Pat (Shelly) Dillon and children, Sean and Kathryn of Des Moines, IA; Tim (Jennifer) Dillon and children, Justin and Danny, Sumner, IA; DJ Ewoldt, Fontana, CA; David Ewoldt, Terre Haute, IN; and Betsy Ewoldt, West LaFayette, IN.

Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn, and a son, Tom.

Leonard Funeral Home of Elkader was in charge of professional arrangements.
