Edwin C. Malone, Sr., 88, of Aledo, died Friday, July 11, 2003 at Mercer County Hospital in Aledo.
Funeral services 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 15 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Aledo with the Rev. John Thieryoung officiating. Burial in the Aledo cemetery. Visitation from 5-7 p.m., Monday, July 14 at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo where a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be left to Gilda's Club.
Edwin was born March 1, 1915 in Strawberry Point, Iowa, a son of Clyde A. and Maude E. Carr Malone. He received his education from the Strawberry Point schools and graduated from Manchester High School in Manchester, Iowa. He married Theo Rosalie Soenksen Nov. 23, 1935 in Manchester, Iowa. She died in 1981.
Edwin was elected Justice of the Peace in Mercer County in 1958 and 1961. In May 1965 he was appointed by the Circuit Judges of the 14th Judicial Circuit as a Magistrate of the Circuit Court and was re-appointed in 1969. He became an associate circuit court judge in 1971 and retired in 1983 after 25 years of judicial service.
Edwin was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Justice of the Peace Assoc., a former member and past President of the Associate Judges Assoc. and served on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Judges Assoc. He was a former member and past president of the Aledo Rotary Club and a former member of the Oakview Country Club in Aledo where he had also served on the board.
Survivors include a daughter: Shirley Ann Malone of Ottawa; three sons and a daughter-in-law: Norman Malone of Bettendorf, Iowa; Gary Malone of Aledo; and Terry and Caroline Malone of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister: Lillyan Barnd of Marion, Iowa; a brother: Clyde L. Malone of Aledo; and a special friend Rosalie Thede of Aledo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons: Edwin C. Malone Jr. and Robert S. Malone.
