Elkader Register, Fri., 17 March 1882. Elkport Locals column.

A farmer named John Schroeder was found dead, on Tuesday evening about four o'clock. When found he was laying in the road between this place and Guttenberg. A coroner's inquest was held on Wednesday, and the jury decided that his death was caused by heart disease. Mr. S. was an honest, upright man, and was highly respected by all who knew him for his many good qualities. He was 72 years of age and leaves a wife and three grown up children in comfortable circumstances. His remains will be buried Friday, in the Garnavillo cemetery.
