Elkader Register, Fri., 14 Sept. 1883.

This week we have to publish the sad announcement of the death of John Poesh, which occurred at his home in Grand Meadow township on Saturday, Sept. 8th, 1883, of malarial fever, at the age of 50 years. Mr. Poesh was born in Weisenstadt, Bavaria, May 12th, 1833, and came to the United States in 1852, settling near Clayton Centre, where he remained a number of years. While residing here, he was married to Catharine Weiss, who with two sons and two daughters survive him. He removed to Grand Meadow township some 13 years ago, and has resided there continuously until the time of his death.

He was highly respected by all who Knew him, was honest and upright in his dealings with his fellow men, and his death will be truly regretted by all. May he rest in peace.
