Martha Woodall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pool was born September 1st, 1805, at Trefnant parish of Alberbury, England. She was married to George Woodall the 29th of July 1829, in the city of Birmingham, England.
She came to the United States with her husband, landing in New York City, in September 1831. Went to Pittsburg in 1832 where she remained until 1856 when she came to Clayton county, Iowa, where she has resided until her death which occurred Nov. 21, 1889. She lived to the good old age of 84 years, 2 months and 21 days. She leaves one son, one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren to mourn her demise. She was a good mother a kind neighbor and faithful friend, always ready and willing to assist those in distress. Being an old resident with a large acquaintance she will be greatly missed by the whole community. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Thompson and was one of the largest ever known here. The remains were interred in the Mt. Harmony cemetery on Sunday the 24th inst. Peace to the ashes. Our loss is her gain.
