Burnham, Martha A. 1855 - 1923

Elkader Register, Thur., 8 Mar. 1923.

Martha A. Brown, daughter of John and Jane Brown, was born at Green Lake, Green Lake County, Wis., Oct. 4th, 1855 and came with the family to Monona township Clayton County, Iowa, in 1872. She was married to Francis Burnham March 16th, 1873 and came as a bride to the home where she passed away on Monday afternoon Feb. 26, just a few days less than fifty years of wedded life. To this union were born five children, one of whom preceded the mother in death. Of the immediate family left to mourn the passing of a kind and loving wife and mother, is the aged husband, daughters, Luella, Grace and Caddie, one son, Roy all at home. One sister Mrs. Sarah Adams, and a brother Will Brown both of Cresco, Iowa. Her father in early life was a Methodist minister and she imbibed many of this teachings which she put in practice during her life. Mrs. Burnham was a kind and generous neighbor, ever willing to respond to a call for help. Services were conducted by Rev. J. B. Ackman at the home, interment in the Farmersburg cemetery, Thursday a.m. It was a beautiful day and a large gathering of friends and neighbors came to pay their last respects to the departed and to comfort those who mourned. The abundant floral offerings and the many kind deeds of neighbors and received with heartfelt thanks by each member of the family, and the relatives present.

She married Benjamin Francis "Francis" Burnham. He mainly used the name Francis.
The child who preceded Martha was Juliana E. Burnham who died 1890.
The sons name was Raymond.
