Elkader- Mrs. Henry Oelke died early this morning at the home of her daughter here, Mrs. Elmer Bente, where she had been since Christmas. She was 75.

Mrs. Oelke had been in failing health for the past few years.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, at 2:00 p.m., at the Peace and Evangelical Reformed church here, with the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating. Burial will be in the family lot at Farmersburg.

She will lie in state at the Oelke Funeral Home until the hour of services.

A pioneer resident of Clayton county who has lived there all her life, she is survived by her husband, Henry; one daughter, Mrs. Elmer Bente of Elkader; two sons, Lloyd of Garnavillo and Leslie of Elkader; two brothers, Richard Looby of Farmersburg and Charles Looby of Luana; and two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Ingelhardt of Springville and Mrs. Nels B. Arveson of Sioux Falls, S.D.

Funeral services for Mrs. Henry Oelke, 75, a lifelong resident of Farmersburg, were held from the Oelke funeral home at 1:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon, Feb. 10, to the Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Paul Kitterer officiated. Burial was in the Farmersburg Wagner Cemetery at Farmersburg.

Mrs. Oelke died at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Bente, in Elkader early Monday morning, Feb. 7, 1949. She had been in ill health for about two months and was confined to her bed the past two weeks.

Tresa J. Looby was born at Farmersburg, in Wagner township, Clayton county, February 8, 1873, the daughter of Edward and Margaret (Barnum) Looby. She received her education in the Farmersburg public school.

She was united in marriage on June 3, 1896, at the Lutheran church in Farmersburg to Henry W. Oelke. For a time Mr. Oelke worked for his father who was in business in Farmersburg. Later, for a period of ten years, Mr. and Mrs. Oelke operated the hotel and livery at that place. Then, for twenty-eight years, they were engaged in the mercantile business at Farmersburg. They retired from active business several years ago and continued to make their home at Farmersburg where she continued to care for their home until two weeks ago when they came to Elkader to make their home with their children. Mrs. Oelke had reached the age of 75 years, eleven months and twenty-nine days.

Mr. and Mrs. Oelke had the rare privilege of celebrating their golden wedding anniversary in June 1946.

The deceased was a member of the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church, Elkader, the Royal Neighbors Lodge and Charity Chapter No. 152 O.E.S., Elkader.

She is survived by her husband, a daughter and two sons, namely, Mrs. Elmer Bente and Leslie Oelke, both of Elkader, and Lloyd Oelke of Garnavillo; two brothers and two sisters, Charles Looby, Luana, and Richard Looby, Farmersburg, Mrs. Mabel Engelhardt, Springville, and Mrs. Nels Arveson, Sioux Falls, S.D; also three grandsons and one granddaughter and two great-granddaughters. A son, Floyd, of Independence, preceded her in death in April, 1948.

Pall bearers were James Mathews, Sydney Ramsey, Lawrence Oelke, Dick Kipel, J. C. Waddell, Gaylord Oelke.

Among the relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mrs. M. B. Dowell, R. F. Looby, Edward Looby, all of [illegible], S.D.; Mrs. Nels B. Arveson, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Mrs. Mabel Engelhardt, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Waddell, all of Springville; Sid Ramsey and daughter, Marjorie, Oelwein; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Looby and family, Luana; Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Peterson, Mindora, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Oelke, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Oelke, all of LaCrosse, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Gaylord Oelke and Arnold Oelke, Monona; Mrs. Cecil Oelke and son Jack of Independence; Clifford Looby, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. DeVere Oelke and family, Maquoketa; Richard Looby, Farmersburg; and many other relatives and friends.
