Hold Services for Former Resident

A. C. Hagensick Buried Here Last Thursday

Funeral services were held at the Witt Funeral chapel last Friday afternoon for A. Charles Hagensick, former Elkader resident. Burial was made in the East Side cemetery. Prayer was offered by the Rev. N. O. Bartholomew and H. D. Brown, of the local Masonic lodge, presided at the Masonic services.

A. Charles Hagensick, who was born in Read township, March 15, 1861, died at his home in Milwaukee on December 16th, at the age of 79 years, nine months and one day.

Mr. Hagensick retired on April 1, 1939, after 40 years with the Milwaukee road. He had been assistant secretary of the railroad since 1913. Prior to going to Milwaukee Mr. Hagensick was active in politics in this county. For a time he was county surveyor and also deputy auditor. In the latter capacity he served under the late E. W. Adams, whom he followed to Milwaukee. The deceased was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Elkader lodge, No. 72, A. F. and A. M., Tripoli Shrine and Bethany chapter, Order of Eastern Stars. [sic]

Mr. Hagensick had ridden 500,000 miles on the Milwaukee road, ever since the offices were moved to Chicago from Milwaukee ten years ago. Not wanting to move his family away from friends and connections in Milwaukee Mr. Hagensick commuted daily to Chicago, catching the 6:40 train in the morning and the 5:05 train from Chicago, every night.

Hattie Leibrock, to whom Mr. Hagensick was first married, died December 17, 1922. Seven years later, September, 1929, he was united in marriage with Mrs. Tillie Lippert, who, together with five sons, survive. The sons are:

Dewey C., of Ennis, Texas; Mark A., of Nevada, Iowa; Milton E., of Albuquerque, N. M.; Byron L., and Elton L., both of Milwaukee. A stepson, William Lippert of Milwaukee, and a sister, Mrs. Laura Yahr, of Milwaukee, also survive.

One son, Karl, precede his father in death in June, 1911, and he also was buried in the local cemetery.

Casketbearers were: Henry Lenth, John Downie, J. F. Becker, Wm. C. Monlux, Milton Monlux and Wm. Becker.

Mr. Hagensick had a host of friends while still a resident of Elkader. He always enjoyed coming back here for periodical visits and these visits were always welcomed by his friends.
