Mrs. Leonard Coonfare, nee Winnie Emily Carpenter, was born Sept. 30, 1887 in Cox Creek township, Clayton County, Iowa near Osborne.
She grew to womanhood and lived all her life in that vicinity, being married on Oct. 3, 1906, to Leonard Coonfare of Littleport.
She died on March 29, 1931, at Clark Hospital McGregor, after an illness of a few weeks, aged 43 years.
She is survived by her husband and four sons, Carl, Vern, Herbert and Gilbert; also her mother, Mrs. Mable Carpenter; a sister, Mrs. Edith Rust, all of West Allis, Wisconsin; also a brother, Leon A. Carpenter of Casper, Wyoming.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at one o'clock at the Methodist church, Mcgregor, Rev. F.H. Schepple officiating, Burial was made in Cox Creek cemetery.
The pall bearers were her four sons, a brother, Harvey Carpenter and a cousin, Oscar Possehl. Attending the funeral were Mrs. Morris Coonfare and Elmer Coonfare of Rockford, Illinois, Mrs. Mable Carpenter and Mrs. Edith Rust of Milwaukee, Harvey Carpenter of Chicago; Claude Neuton and son of Manchester; Mr. and Mrs. James Coonfare of Motor; Mr. and Mrs. Guy Coonfare of Guttenberg; Mr. and Mrs. Wayland Carpenter of Maynard; Mrs. Edith Kauffman of Greeley; Mr. and Mrs. Nat Scovel of Arlington; Mrs. John Moyna, Edward and Evelyn of Elkader; Mrs. Francis Farmer, Mr. and Mrs. Miles Alderson, Mr. and Mrs. Ellsworth Alderson, Mrs. Susie Alderson, Mrs. Virgil Quinn, Mrs. John Tinker and son, Don, Mr. and Mrs. Dell Carpenter, Mrs. Alma Carpenter, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Pugh, Miss Alice Baldridge, Mrs. Mabel Possehl and Mrs. Mary Dill.
