Catherine Kafer

Mrs. Catherine Kafer, widow of the late Anton Kafer, passed away at her home in Littleport Saturday morning after a brief illness. A stroke of paralysis from which she never rallied was the cause of her death.

Catherine Pfrommer was born in Weurtenberg, Germany, July 14, 1859. When she was 21 years of age she, with some of her relatives and friends came to this country and settled at Littleport for a time. At the age of 23 she was united in marriage with Anton Kafer of Elkport, the ceremony being performed in the catholic church at Petersburg. To this union eight children were born. Two sons, Matthew and Anton Jr., preceded her in death. Her husband passed away three months ago. Six children are left to mourn her passing: Fred, Paul, and Joseph Kafer of Littleport, Frank Kafer of Charles City, Mrs. Thos. Madden of Littleport, and Mrs. Martin Wiley of Edgewood. Funeral services were held in Sacred Heart church Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock by Rev. Wm. Goetsinger.

Mrs. Kafer was a good Christian mother and a kind neighbor. She will be sadly missed by her children and friends. The last years of her life have been full of pain but she bore her suffering cheerfully. The following friends carried her to her last resting place. Wm. Brich, John Wiley, M. Dinan, Louis Winch, P. McNamara and Martin McNamara.
