DIED.
At his home in Cox Creek township, on Sunday, Jan. 12th, 1879, of typho-pneumonia, JOHN J. SCHMIDT, aged 57 years.
Mr. Schmidt was a native of Mecklenburg, Germany, and had resided in Cox Creek township for the past 18 years. He leaves a wife and a large family, who have the sympathy of their many friends in their affliction.
[TRANSCRIBER'S NOTE: He married Dorothea Klaehen or Klähen, widow of Friedrich Grünewald or Greenwaldt, on 30 March 1860, according to the records of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garnavillo, Iowa. They had two children, Albert and John, and she had at least four children by her first marriage: Fredericka Heiden, Henry Greenwaldt, Minnie Snedigar, and Anna Gruenwalt.]
