Clayton County Register, Thur., 20 June 1929.
Vernon Laurel Knudson passed away at the Moran Hospital at Elkader, Iowa, at 1:35 a.m., Monday, June 10, following an auto accident early Sunday evening. At first hopes were held for his recovery but serious internal injuries caused his death.
Vernon or "Ted", as he was known to his many friends, was born at St. Olaf, Iowa, May 14, 1906, reaching the age of 23 years and 27 days. He was baptized and confirmed in the Norway Lutheran church of which he was still a member and received his education in the St. Olaf public school and Elkader.
He followed painting as his occupation for some time, and was recently employed in the Larson Hatchery at St. Olaf.
He was well known in the community, having lived here all his life and will be greatly missed by his many friends.
His sudden and untimely death is mourned by his beloved mother, Mrs. Louise Knudson, with whom he made his home, his sister Gladys (Mrs. Blaine Johnson) also of St. Olaf and a host of friends and relatives. His death was indeed a shock, not only to his mother and sister, but to the whole community, but it was God's will and He doeth all things well.
Funeral services were held at the home and Norway church Wednesday, June 12, with Rev. T. W. Tysdal officiating. Pallbearers were Walde Embretson, Horace and Alvin Larson, Aden and Vernett Embretson and Orvill Embretson.
"There is a blest home,
Beyond this land of woe,
Where trials never come,
'Nor tears of sorrow flow;
Where faith is lost in sight,
And patient hope is crowned,
And everlasting light
Its glory throws around."
