Dolores Lane Troy (Nyberg), 96, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2015, in Ballwin, MO.
Dolores was born January 13, 1919, in Gunder, IA, to Oscar J. Nyberg and Selina Nyberg (Jenson). She was baptized and confirmed at Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder and graduated from Postville High School in Postville, IA, at the age of 16.
Dolores went on to receive her KG-PR teaching degree from the Iowa State Teacher's College (now University of Northern Iowa) in Cedar Falls, IA, where she was a member of the Tau Sigma Delta (TEA) Sorority and featured in the 1939 yearbook as one of the “Old Gold Beauties.” She was a finalist in the 1939 "Queen of Iowa Redhead Contest" at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines, IA.
She taught for three years and then married Harland E. Troy on May 15, 1943, in Quantico, VA. He preceded her in death in 2006. The family traveled widely during Hal's career in the U.S. Marine Corps, from which he retired as a Lt. Colonel, and later moved to Florissant, MO.
Dolores and Hal then retired in Bonita Springs, FL, where she was an active member of the Christus Victor Lutheran Church. Dolores enjoyed bridge, bowling, golf, and entertaining and cooking for family and friends. She even learned to play the harmonica at age 90. She will be remembered for her courage, determination, sense of humor and kindness.
Dolores was well loved by her large family including her children, Vicky Troy, Sandy Shores, Nancy (Barry) Schneider, Blake Troy and Barb (Greg) Houska; her grandchildren, the late Bobby Harris, Kenny Pratt, Stephany (Mark) Weeks, the late Kelly Clausen, Darcy Clausen, Dane (Tonya) Clausen, Haley (Adam) Howes, Caitlin (Michael) Penny, Audrey Clausen, Jordan Troy, Curt Clausen; great-grandchildren, CJ Harris, Robin Harris, Sarah (Carson) Shaw, Tyler Weeks, Rory Troy, Jaxton Clausen, Mia Howes; and great-great-grandchildren, Cayden Thixton, Addison Shaw and Bentley Shaw.
Services to be held on Saturday, July 25, 2015, at Schrader Funeral Home in Ballwin, MO.
