HART, WILTSIE

On Wednesday last, April 11, 1866, Alvin Hart was engaged with his father in cutting Stave Timber two miles above Elkport. At noon father and son sat down under a tree to eat their dinner and just as Alvin was in the act of sitting down, a large limb, some six or seven inches in diameter, fell down from the tree and struck him, first in the face and then in the abdomens, inflicting so severe an injury upon him that he died at 10 o’clock that evening.

He was taken to the house of Mr. Wiltsie in the neighborhood, where every possible that could be done for him, but of no avail. Alvin was an industrious and exemplary young man whom everyone thought well of, and the father and sisters who mourn his untimely death have the heartfelt sympathies of all our citizens.

Alvin was 27 years old. He was buried on Friday, and one of the largest funeral processions we have seen in this place followed him to the grave.
