Died in Elkader, January 26th of Diphtheria, Thomas, only son of Patrick and Mary Keenan, age 3 years 8 months and 11 days.
We sometimes from the bud can guess,
The glories of the coming rose,
The colors through the leaves express,
A hint of what time will disclose.
So little Thomas’ eyes, too bright
To give their full expression here,
For told that in God’s full.er light,
His soul must find a perfect sphere.
We mourn him now and yet we know
A bright light illumes his eye,
A fuller radiance wreathes his brow,
To blossom he must needs to die.
We give to God what first he gave,
We bless him with our weeping eyes,
Our bud sleeps not within the grave,
But sweetly blooms in Paradise.
