John J. Wiley of Littleport, a prominent Clayton county farmer, died at his home two miles from Littleport at 5:00 a.m. today from a heart attack suffered an hour before. He was 69.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart church at Littleport. The remains are at the Oelke Funeral home at Elkader but will be taken to his home today.

He was born of a prominent pioneer family and lived all his life on the home farm. He was active in civic interests and was one of the organizers of the Farmers Cooperative Creamery at Littleport 30 years ago and was its first president.

He is survived by his widow; one son, John J., on the home farm; one daughter, Mrs. Cecil Glennon of Volga City; and two sisters, Mary Wiley of West Union and Mrs. Anna Brady of Aurora, Ill.

John J. Wiley, 68, well known Clayton county farmer, died suddenly at 5:00 a.m. Thursday, March 2, following a heart attack at his home one mile north of Littleport.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 4, at Sacred Heart Catholic church, Littleport, where he had been a lifelong member. The Rev. Robert J. Saunders of Garber officiated at the services and the Rev. Loras J. Holmberg attended. The body was interred at St. Joseph’s cemetery, Elkader.

John Wiley was actively identified with many civic interests in Littleport. He was one of the organizers of the Farmers Cooperative creamery there 30 years ago, was its first president and for 15 years served as its secretary. For 20 years he served on the Littleport school board. He was a secretary of the Woodmen and a member of the Catholic Foresters.

Survivors include his wife, the former Anna Stence; a son, John M. and family who manage the home farm; a daughter, Mrs. Cecil Glennon, Volga; two grandchildren, Rose Ann and John Glennon Wiley, Littleport; a brother Frank, West Union; and two sisters, Mary, West Union, and Mrs. Anna Brady, Aurora.
